Welcome to Hanzō

Hanzō is Madklubben’s Asian brat who doesn’t care one bit about national borders, rules or traditions. He’ll happily mix and match inspirations from street kitchens and haute cuisine alike while exploring culinary destinations such as Japan, China, Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam, Indonesia, Laos and beyond. You’ll find our colorful restaurant at the quaint and eclectic Værnedamsvej bridging the neighborhoods of Vesterbro and Frederiksberg. Take a seat in the colorful dining room or in one of the “secret” back alley nooks, that you’ll have to pass through the waiters’ corridor and kitchen to find.

Hanzō introduces a luxurious ”Bento Box” for a special holiday price

Hanzō introduces a luxurious ”Bento Box” for a special holiday price

”A 4 course dinner presented in a beautiful, Japanese food box and followed by dessert.” That’s how Hanzō’s new Bento Box is explained in just one sentence.

In reality there is a long and detailed cultural history behind the phenomenon. What started out as a practical lunch solution over 1.500 years ago – inspired by Japanese farmers’ boxes for seeds with small compartments for meat, fish and rice – has since spread to China, Korea, Philippines and beyond. Now a day, the Bento Box concept ranges from a school lunch to a luxurious dinner.

The Bento Box which now will be launched at Madklubben’s Asian gastro mixer falls into the last mentioned category: “Luxury Bento”. At Hanzō you will have 4 delightful dishes in your box and when the box is empty, we offer a little dessert to round off the experience.
Hanzō’s Bento Box will cost DKK 225 but in the school winter holiday in week 7, we introduce the new concept for a special price of just DKK 175. In other words: Hurry up to book a table in the period February 12th to February 18th.

The content of the box will dynamically change from week 8 and beyond, but in the school winter holiday 2018, you will for DKK 175 be served:

  • Lumpfish roe with a sour yuzu soy, avocado cream, salad and crispy gyozas
  • Spring rolls with Jerusalem artichoke and broccoli – served with tamarind miso sauce and spicy cucumber salad
  • Fresh rolls with tuna tartare, ponzu, sesame and wasabi mayo
  • Sweet/sour chicken wings with vegetables and rice
  • Sorbet of the day served with meringue

2017 was a fantastic year for our Copenhagen based restaurant family. We welcomed Madklubben Frederiksberg in a 19th century train station, opened the doors to Tony’s Østerbro as well as a stylish event space in the iconic ”PARK” building on Østerbrogade, relocated Asian crowd favorite Hanzō to Værnedamsvej and premiered Madklubben Nørrebro in a semi-secret courtyard below the city’s famous ”IRMA” rooftop neon signs.

Now we welcome 2018 and it will be another year packed with new restaurants as well as transformations of existing venues. Get the full lowdown here:

Madklubben Østerbro: The final chapter of our grand transformation of the historic ”PARK” building opened in the beginning of January in the shape of Madklubben Østerbro. Book a table for a dining experience and read all about the new restaurant by clicking here.

FOOD CLUB: By the end of January we’ll open the doors to a brand new concept in the Madklubben family: FOOD CLUB. Here you can expect a buffet like you’ve never tried one before, packed with free range meats, organic vegetables and sustainable ingredients. The price tag of 250 DKK on weekdays and 300 DKK on weekends will include ALL food and beverages. Keep updated on the development of FOOD CLUB here.

BAZAAR: In the spring of 2018 we’ll welcome restaurant Bazaar in a former post office building in the heart of Copenhagen. Expect a stylish and irresistible tribute to the Moorish kitchen, which you may also know as the Berber kitchen or Arabian kitchen. In other words, a stunning food culture stretching all the way from Syria in the East along the Mediterranean to the South of Spain and further down to Morocco in North Africa. Follow how work on BAZAAR is progressing through this Facebook page and at restaurantbazaar.dk/en.

Madklubben Aarhus: By May 2018 we’ll open our first restaurant in Jutland in Denmark’s second largest city, Aarhus. We’re moving in to the stunning “Aarhus Custom House” dating back to the 19th century. Here you can look forward to a grand Madklubben restaurant inspired by the people, food and culture of Aarhus. We’ll be able to seat 200 to 250 guests indoors and an equal amount outdoors during the summer. The concept will be classic “Madklubben” with one course from DKK 125, 2 courses from DKK 200 and 3 courses from DKK 225. Read more about the project (in Danish) through Aarhus Update here and follow the development of the project on Facebook here. You are also very welcome to check out Madklubben Aarhus’ webside right here.

Mystery project in Vesterbro: On the first day of the year we unveiled (article in Danish) that the Madklubben group will open a new project in the space adjacent to Madklubben Vesterbro during 2018. For many years a small lamp store has occupied the address but what we plan to do with the store won’t be revealed until later this year. Stay tuned!

Oh sweet month of Christmas, where are you going? Time flies, soon it’s December 24th, and before we know it, we once again face the welcoming of a new and exciting year.

But if you still haven’ planned how to round off 2017 and greet 2018,  then we suggest that you stop by our webshop, where you can still find tickets for a refined New Year’s Eve dinner at one of Madklubben’s restaurants. Celebrate New Year’s Eve at Hanzō with a tasty 13 course dinner

Celebrate New Year’s Eve at Hanzō with a tasty 13 course dinner

Sit down and enjoy a lavish Asian New Year’s Eve dinner at Hanzō. Our head chef, Claus Engelbrecht, has worked at top restaurants in Denmark and abroad and his love of Far East gastronomy – street style and haute cuisine alike – shines through on a menu boasting no less than 13 courses served in 5 heats.

Set a colorful scene for your New Year’s Eve dinner at our charismatic Asian restaurant. Here the colors are bright, the lamps are twisted and the walls are decorated with lacquered wood. At Hanzō the atmosphere is calm and intimate, but also as New Year’s Eve should be: fun, festive and fabulous.

No matter the size of your party we’ll be serving you our 13 course menu to share by the table. Here you get to taste our exquisite sashimi made of beef tenderloin with yuzu, soy sauce and burned sesame oil, tasty tempura made of king oyster mushroom and winter mushrooms or sinful coconut pancake with caramel ice cream and mango.

Read more about our event and take part in our New Year celebrations for the great price of DKK 750 by clicking here. Spice up your evening by purchasing our wine menu here. Are you bringing the kids? No worries. We offer a “children edition” of our New Year’s Eve menu for half the price right here.

At 11.30 pm we thank you for tonight and wish each other a happy New Year so our lovely staff can get home and enjoy the celebrations with friends and family. We are looking forward to be sending you happy and full towards the new year!

Discover the taste of the Far East – host your Christmas party at Hanzō

Discover the taste of the Far East – host your Christmas party at Hanzō

Madklubben’s Asian eatery at Værnedamsvej – Hanzō – draws on scrumptious street food as well as dazzling haute cuisine inspirations. A 0% traditional Christmas experience but a 100% must try for foodies who love the Far East.

If you’re already looking forward to attending both your family’s, your girlfriend’s, your company’s and your mother in law’s Christmas party it might seem impossible to eat all that traditional Christmas food you know you’ll be served during the holidays. So why not spice up this year’s Christmas party and eat your way to a warmer celebration? In the intimate setting on Værnedamsvej with colorful walls, swirled lamps and bright Børge Mogensen chairs the scene is set at Hanzō for a Christmas outside the lines. – Actually, all the way outside the Danish borders!

Take a break from the caramelized potatoes with a bowl of steaming rice. Taste our fresh spring rolls instead of a tempered pâté. Add some spicy curry and forget all about the Danish gravy. – And you know what the best thing is? Instead of traveling to the Far East, our food mecca and authentic atmosphere is just a local bus ride to Værnedamsvej away.

Click here if you wish to see all your options and how you book a table. Less than 10 persons? No worries – if you just bring the party, we’ll bring the food! The restaurant’s Christmas à la carte comes into force from November 7th.

PS. Remember that you can continue the celebrations at Madklubben Vesterbro’s cocktail bar after you Christmas dinner.

Fireworks for foodies: The tickets for New Year’s Eve have been released

Fireworks for foodies: The tickets for New Year’s Eve have been released

End 2017 with a bang at one of Madklubben’s restaurants in Copenhagen. Our skilled chefs have developed a range of delicious and elegant menus, which can be enjoyed at our beautiful venues across town from as little as DKK 500 per person. If you know just a little about New Year’s prices in the Danish capital, you’ll also know that it’s quite the scoop.

While some of our restaurants serve up a menu for DKK 500 with the option of adding a tailored wine menu other restaurants have opted to include the beverages in the package price, which will run at DKK 1.000 as a result. At Alabama Social and Bar Next Door they’re pulling out all the stops with spectacular wines and cocktails resulting in a seat price of DKK 1.200 and DKK 1.400 respectively.

Get the full low down on all your dining options for New Year’s Eve on December 31st 2017 and secure your tickets already today. Tickets for Madklubben Østerbro and Hanzō will be released in the coming weeks.

The return of Hanzō: Opening date, menu and reservations

The return of Hanzō: Opening date, menu and reservations

Remember Hanzō? You know – our Asian fusion restaurant, which used to be located next to Alabama Social and Gran Torino near Copenhagen’s manmade Lakes in Nørrebro? Well, Hanzō has been gone for some time now, but we have great news! Hanzō version 2.0 will reopen on September 19th – this time at Værnedamsvej centrally located between the neighborhoods of Frederiksberg and Vesterbro.

The menu is an eclectic combination featuring all the best from Far East countries such as Japan, Vietnam, Thailand, China, Indonesia and so on. We love exploring new creations while still cherishing the old traditions.  Hanzō is street food, Hanzō is haute cuisine and Hanzō is everything in between.  Our à la carte menu is packed with delicious dishes and favorable prices. Alternatively you can go all in by ordering “The Hanzō Experience” featuring all 13 servings from the menu for a mere DKK 375.

Our website is now open for reservations and the Asian melting pot experience is right around the corner! Click here to book a table and take a look at Hanzō’s scrumptious menu right here.

Grand plans: We are working on more than 6 new restaurants in Copenhagen

Grand plans: We are working on more than 6 new restaurants in Copenhagen

Photo: Rasmus Kramer Schou – This building will house Tony’s Østerbro, Madklubben Østerbro and a new event space

Springtime has officially arrived and just like all the flowers and trees in the Danish capital, future plans for Madklubben are blooming. A wide array of media outlets from Politiken to Berlingske and beyond have reported on our new tasty projects set to open in 2017 but to make things easier we’ve collected all the essential information for you right here:

Madklubben Frederiksberg: This scrumptious yet elegant neighborhood spot will open in an old train station in the smack middle of Frederiksberg by the end of May.

Tony’s Østerbro: We’ve acquired one of Copenhagen’s most iconic buildings located in Østerbro. Dating back to 1926 the impressive structure used to house a wide array of night clubs and restaurants and will be resurrected with several new Madklubben concepts. The first to open is Tony’s Østerbro in the summer of 2017 – a duplicate of our Italian crowd favorite close to Nyhavn.

More room for events: Did you wonder what that ”more than five restaurants” in the title meant? Well, it isn’t exactly a restaurant of its own but we’re creating a beautiful space for large groups and parties in the same building in Østerbro. Set to open during the summer this will become the perfect place for your birthday party, wedding, company celebration etc.

Bazaar: Announced in the very end of 2016 our Arabian inspired restaurant is currently underway in a former post office in Dronningens Tværgade in the heart of Copenhagen. We expect the opening to take place late summer or in the beginning of the fall 2017.

”Con Amore”: This is not going to be the actual name of the restaurant but it’s our working title: ”With Love”. In Ny Adelgade right by Kongens Nytorv we are working on a smaller and more exclusive restaurant than what you might expect from a Madklubben project. We look forward to telling you more soon.

Værnedamsvej: On this charming little street connecting the neighborhoods of Vesterbro and Frederiksberg we are also working on creating a great little restaurant in 2017.

Hanzō: Our popular pan-Asian eatery that closed in Nørrebro the beginning of the year is still on the hunt for a new home. We have a few different options on our hands and we can’t wait to bring back Hanzō to our restaurant family in 2017.
