At Madklubben’s meat loving restaurant we serve up juicy cuts and big steaks at small prices. Madklubben Steak spreads out over two floors connected by a grandiose stair case and the space was completely renovated and refurbished with classic designer furniture in the spring of 2016. We serve both lunch and dinner so there’s no excuse not to stop by when you’re in the mood for a great steak. The menu also sports fish, poultry and a wide array of other treats – just in case!

New restaurants: Madklubben Nørrebro and Gran Torino 2.0 are now open!

Just as January kissed February ”hello” we here at Madklubben welcomed to no less that two new restaurants. Well, more like 1,5 new restaurants, seeing at our popular Italian pizza pusher Gran Torino just moved to a new location. But with a brand new decor and ditto menu concept it definitely qualifies as  ”breaking foodie news” as well.

Gran Torino moved from its former courtyard space out to 5 Sortedam Dossering right on the bank of Copenhagen’s ”Lakes”. It’s a smaller space but with the perfect atmosphere for an urban pizza place sporting both classic and more gourmet inspired pies. Complete with retired merry-go-round horses, a big window between the busy chefs and hungry diners and a brand new menu concept, Gran Torino version 2.0 opened its doors on February 3rd.

Following a series of test dinners in late January, Madklubben Nørrebro finally opened on Gran Torino’s former address on February 6th. Expect a bustling neighborhood spot featuring yummy dishes from the Middle East and beyond fresh from the roaring flame grill. The interior mixes modernist Danish furniture design with rustic industrial details from the venue’s warehouse past. Check out the full menu here.

Both Gran Torino and Madklubben Nørrebro (surprise!) can be found in Copenhagen’s vibrant district of Nørrebro: A cultural melting pot where immigrants mix with students and creative locals surrounded by cool little shops, inspiring eateries and thirst quenching bars.

With a restaurant family boasting a large number of scrumptious eateries throughout Copenhagen it can be quite difficult to decide which Madklubben branch to visit. We have classic French bistros, juicy steak houses, urban hot spots, Italian favorites and even an American soul food restaurant.

Alabama Social: Feel the winter cold be replaced by a culinary heatwave with Alabama Social’s sticky hot wings. Marinated in extra spicy buffalo sauce and topped with chopped peanuts these birds are part of the restaurants “build your own three course menu from DKK 300” concept.

Madklubben Vesterbro:
Experience a traditional maritime dish popular in both Germany and Denmark but with an elegant twist. ”Lobscouse” is a stew made from veal, onions and potatoes, but we also added oyster mushrooms and truffle butter. It’s yours for a mere DKK 100.

Bistro Royal:
Trying to eat healthy in the new year but also want to treat yourself? Then Bistro Royal’s yellowfin tuna tartare is the perfect choice. Dig in to a creamy mix of chopped ruby red fish, avocado, fresh herbs and a dressing made from soy, sesame, ginger and lime. DKK 85.

Madklubben Steak: When the Copenhagen cold is ripping through your nostrils and winter coat you better seek refuge at our steak loving food club in the heart of the city. Start off your meal with the creamy mushroom bisque packed with pickled mushrooms, herbs and chopped hazelnuts. Get it as a part of your three course dinner for 300 DKK. Did we mention, that you can add scallops to the soup for an additional DKK 25?

Tony’s: Our Italian eatery right by the historic ”Nyhavn” harbor district always serves up simple Italian deliciousness. The house ossobuco is no exception and this Milanese specialty with slowly braised and incredibly tender beef shank is served with creamy polenta, parmesan and gremolata for an additional DKK 25 to the DKK 200 three course menu.

Madklubben Bistro-de-Luxe:
The original Madklubben branch is the definition of a value for money experience known for serving up elegant gastronomy at more than fair prices. Try the house steak tartare, which changes it’s ”clothes” according to the season. Right now it’s dressed in truffle mayonnaise, pickled mushrooms, tarragon and potato crisps. Only DKK 50 as part of a two or three course menu.

Steak Royal:
What could possibly make lobster better? Oh yeah, how about broiling it under the grill with French Gruyere cheese, béchamel sauce and bred crumbs ground with fresh parsley. Voilà! The result is an irresistible classic by the name of ”Lobster Thermidor” served with a wedge of grilled lime and a stunning green hue from the parsley leaves.

Bar Next Door:
Okay, so it might not be a restaurant, but we simply had to include our popular cocktail bar in the bustling city district of Nørrebro. The team as Bar Next Door has created a silky smooth creation by the name of “Mayate”. Get ready for a mix of Calle 23 tequila, Kahlua, fresh lime juice, simple syrup and egg whites covered in its own little powdered sugar snow storm. It’s your for DKK 85.

The full lowdown for 2017: We welcome new restaurants and relocate others

Families come in all shapes and sizes. At Madklubben we’re a family of restaurants serving up great food at fair prices and that family is facing a bulk of exciting changes in 2017. Some restaurants are moving from one place to another, while no less than three brand new concepts in Copenhagen have been announced.

Gran Torino: Our Italian crowd favorite closed at its current location by the end of 2016. On February 3rd the restaurant will open right next door in a more intimate setting at Sortedam Dossering number 5.

Madklubben Nørrebro: Our newest Madklubben branch will move into the space previously occupied by Gran Torino at Sortedam Dossering number 7C. This bustling urban eatery will open its doors on February 6th. Book your table here.

Hanzō: The Pan-Asian success will have its last opening day at Sortedam Dossering number 5 on January 21st. The location will be taken over by Italian sister restaurant Gran Torino, while Hanzō moves to a new and undisclosed venue in the city center during spring 2017.

L’Animal: As a passion project stretching beyond the everyday realm of the Madklubben family our CEO and founder Anders Aagaard will open an all day café named L’animal together with former Michelin restaurateur and current TV chef Thomas Herman on Værnedamsvej number 14 in Vesterbro in the spring of 2017.

Bazaar: As if we didn’t have enough exciting projects on our plate come April or May we will also open a Middle Eastern restaurant in the heart of Copenhagen. The exact location is still to be announced, but Bazaar will feature a wide array of delicacies from the Moorish, Arabic and Mediterranean cuisines.

New year – new adventures! As we bid ”adieu” to 2016 and enter into 2017 we here at Madklubben also prepare to embark on a new and exciting a journey that will welcome a new restaurant to our family as well see two of our current eateries relocated to new venues.

Get ready for Madklubben Nørrebro:

December 31st 2016 marked the last opening day of our Italian restaurant Gran Torino at its current location in the courtyard at Sortedam Dossering number 7C. The construction workers have already taken over the space to create Madklubben Nørrebro: A combination of all the best things from the existing Madklubben restaurants mixed with the umistakebly cool vibe that already dominates at sister restaurant Madklubben Vesterbro.

”Since the opening in 2012 Madklubben Vesterbro has become a huge success. We believe it’s due to the fact that the food, decor and atmosphere all mirror the urban and cultural fabric of this specific part of Copenhagen,” says Madklubben’s founder and owner Anders Aagaard before elaborating on the plans for Madklubben Nørrebro:

”The district of Nørrebro calls for a restaurant of the same caliber: A neighborhood spot packed with guests on a Tuesday as well as a Saturday where the menu reflects the Middle Eastern cuisine, which is woven deeply into the cultural fabric of Nørrebro. Naturally served at the great value-for-money prices that people have come to expect from a Madklubben restaurant.”

New venues for Gran Torino and Hanzō:

As we prepare for the opening of Madklubben Nørrebro two of our other popular concepts will move to new locations. Gran Torino will relocate to the space currently occupied by our Asian restaurant Hanzō at Sortedam Dossering number 5. In turn, Hanzō will move to a brand new and (for now) secret venue in the heart of Copenhagen during the spring of 2017.

”Both Gran Torino and Hanzō are successful concepts, but we believe that they can develop even more at other locations. Gran Torino will become a more intimate restaurant with a renewed focus on great pizzas combined with outdoor service by the lake during spring and summer. Hanzō on the other hand will be able to fulfill its potential as a speakeasy gastronomic brat in the city center,” concludes Anders Aagaard.

When it comes to big building projects like this, schedules tend to shift back and forth a bit. But as of now, we expect the the new restaurant openings and moves to be completed at these dates:

  • Madklubben Nørrebro: Will open at 7C Sortedam Dossering on February 6th 2017.
  • Gran Torino: Last day of service at 7C Sortedam Dossering on December 31st 2016 – will reopen at 5 Sortedam Dossering on February 3rd 2017.
  • Hanzō: Last day of service at 5 Sortedam Dossering on January 21st 2017 – will reopen in the heart of Copenhagen during spring 2017 at an unannounced location.

Christmas is right around the corner and on the other side of the street waits 2017. At Madklubben’s restaurants we look forward to relax with friends and family during the holidays just as we will need a bit of time to sleep off the hangovers from New Year’s Eve. While some need a little more rest, others open again already on January the 1st.

Since 2010 Madklubben Steak as served up a wide array of meaty delicacies at more than fair prices and that’s something our guests have come to love. Whether it’s a Tuesday or Saturday night the two story beef palace in the heart of historic Copenhagen is packed with people.

That’s why we’ve recently extended the opening hours in order to allow even more discerning steak lovers to have a seat. From Monday to Saturday the restaurant will now open already at 5 pm. Perfect if you wanna go straight from the office to the dinner table, if you’re bringing the kids or simply have a movie or play to catch once the last bite of meat is consumed.

It’s the same menu as usual that we offer to our guests from 5 pm. It allows you tailor your very own 3 course steak dinner starting at just DKK 300. Check out the full menu here, which boasts newcomers like tuna sashimi, lobster bisque and brown crab along side our renowned steaks.

A classic reimagined: Madklubben Steak’s tartare

When the meat munchies take over and you just can’t resist your primal foodie urges there’s only one thing to do: Book a table at newly refurbished Madklubben Steak. Once that is done another important decision has to be made: Are you only having steak as a main course? Or are you ready to double up on beef? In that case we have just the solution; the most sought after starter on the menu, our steak tartare.

Nothing says ”I’m ready to enjoy a good steak” like warming up with a chilled and raw mini steak. Now that’s meat love! Madklubben Steak’s tartare has been around since the beginning and when we completely renovated the restaurant during spring the popular tartare also got a makeover.

Get ready for a creamy and scrumptious concoction of chopped veal mixed with small, acidic cornichon chunks. The steak tartare is elegantly plated in small scoops atop a crispy chicken landscape. Yes, you read that right: A chicken landscape. We make our very own large crisps out of cooked chicken meat because we truly feel it gives the tartare an extra dimension when it comes to taste as well as texture. The dish is then finished off with tarragon mayonnaise, fresh herbs and sprouts and a sprinkle of raw onions. Enjoy!

At Madklubben Steak your very own tailored steak dinner starts at a mere DKK 300. While some of the more exclusive dishes require an add-on fee, the steak tartare doesn’t cost extra. If you’re more into smoked salmon, a chilled pea soup with rosé shrimp or a third and entirely different starter as a prelude to your main course, then don’t hesitate to check out the full menu here.

The Human Library joins Madklubben for renowned food festival

Are you ready to taste your own prejudices? The Human Library loans out real human beings for personal conversations about challenging and often personal or taboo subjects. Satisfy your curiosity or just get to know a person you otherwise would never have met.

During Copenhagen Cooking & Food Festival 2016 Madklubben Vesterbro gives you a unique chance to combine a lovely dinner with three conversations where you – as a guest – will meet people who are stigmatized, discriminated against or treated differently due to their lifestyle, convictions, ethnicity, job, handicap, sexuality, religion or social status. The ”books” for this event have all volunteered to answer your questions about their subjects.

It all goes down on Monday the 22nd of August at 6 pm where you can enjoy a three course meal paired with three different ”books” from the Human Library for just DKK 200. In many aspects it will be a different dinner where the guests have to be prepared to break the social conventions of a meal in order to engage with unknown co-diners. You will be seated at tables of five guests of which one will be from The Human Library. The ”books” switch from table to table with each course whereas the ticket holding guests will remain seated at the same spot throughout the dinner.

Only 60 seats are available for ”Food Club with The Human Library”. They go on sale on Wednesday the 6th of July at noon. Get your tickets here.

Menu in three servings:

  • 2 starters for sharing at the table: Asian steak tartare with crispy tapioca, porcini mayo and shiso herbs + smoked salmon with smoked cheese, lemon, radish and cucumber
  • Cockerel confit with summer veggies, pickled rhubarb and sauce velouté
  • Panna cotta with berry compote and oatmeal crunch

Loan terms from The Human Library:

  • The loan is personal and cannot be passed on to others before time.
  • The book expects you to ask the questions you want answered.
  • You cannot rip out pages or scribble in the book.
  • All books are volunteers and must be returned in the same state as you met them.
  • Remember to return your book on time.
