Madklubben tributes Danish open faced sandwiches
Madklubben’s restaurant with open faced sandwiches, Madklubben København, is placed at Store Kongensgade. Here Madklubben’s ambition is to tribute Danish open faced sandwiches at lunch. And a modern Danish cuisine at night.

Copenhagen is known for its many open faced sandwich restaurants. And one of the newest shot in the game is Madklubben’s restaurant with open faced sandwiches, Madklubben København, that is placed in Store Kongensgade 66.
Here guests can explore a menu that tributes open faced sandwiches at lunch. And a modern Danish cuisine with classics such as veal stew, Chicken Danoise and fried plaice filet at night.
“I have always dreamt of opening a restaurant where open faced sandwiches and the Danish cuisine get our ultimate love. A safe place where we serve food that most Danes crave when they have been away from Denmark for more than 14 days, ”says owner and founder of Madklubben, Anders Aagaard.
Anders and the team behind Madklubben København have used hundreds of hours to experiment with open faced sandwiches before they opened the doors to the first restaurant with smørrebrød in the history of Madklubben. That means that you as a guest can look forward to an open faced sandwich menu which is based on the seasons and tributes traditions but also shows the amazing things you can do with smørrebrød when it is created in a modern kitchen.
Open faced sandwiches at sympathetic prices
In the best Madklubben style, the prices are at a level where everyone can join. A piece of smørrebrød costs between 75-115 kr. and is based on the smørrebrød that the team behind Madklubben København dreams of – all depending on the season.
“Our smørrebrød will be recognizable. But always with our own twist. When you see the menu, you are supposed to feel safe so your shoulders can be lowered and you can lean back and enjoy a meal that is based on some of my own absolut favorite dishes,” says Anders Aagaard, who is borned and raised in Southern Jutland, where Danish Cuisine filled a big part of the weakly meal plan.
When I was told in the morning that lunch was a piece of smørrebrød with roastbeef, I could seriously walk around and not being able to think about anything else than when it was lunch time. There were a few courses that meant everything to me. They got me to think that I probably wasn’t the only one that felt that way, why I gathered with some of my good colleagues from Madklubben to find which pieces of smørrebrød that would evoke these feelings in us. That kind of smørrebrød is part of Madklubben København”, says Anders Aagaard.
Lunch will be served from 11:00-15:00 where smørrebrød plays the main role.
However, there will always be a variety of hot dishes for lunch as well. The evening at Madklubben København starts at 17:00, and here you can begin with starters such as shrimp cocktail, warm potato salad and tartar, while you as main course can get courses such as Chicken Danoise with cucumber salad, raw pickled rhubarb and chicken sauce, veal stew and fried plaice filet. For dessert, the chefs serve rhubarb pie, buttermilk fromage or Danish strawberries with ice cream and woodruff. In the evening, 1 course costs 125 kr., 2 courses 200 kr. and 3 courses 225 kr.
